West Tamar Council – Farewell to a Staunch Supporter
Its farewell to Ted Thornley from West Tamar Council who has not only been a voice for the activities of TVWs and supported us in our position in the municipality, but a loss to Rowella Landcare. Ted has not only advocated weed management but gotten out there and pulled a heap of the rotten stuff out.
Web-tastic!
Well if ever you doubted the power of the internet then our launch of the new and improved webpage will make you think twice! www.weeds.asn.au launched on the first of October, has had in excess of 11,000 pages of information served already. Come and check out our downloadable weed identification and management files, check out what community groups are up to and visit the calendar so you can come along to a working bee!
End of an Era – #1
Well with the forthcoming closure of the Tamar Valley Weed Strategy community support is now being terminated. Unfortunately our first finalisation in support is with the Pipers River Ragwort Raid. The Raid last year cleared approximately 660km of roadside of ragwort, making a marked impact on the districts ragwort problem. The Raid I believe will still continue with the driving force of the local residents and the Tasmanian Fire Service -TVWS wishes the Raiders all the best for this seasons Ragwort pull.
End of an Era – #2
Ragwort support for the Tamar River Catchment provided by TVWS is now finalised. Ragwort management “care packs” are now available from the TVWS Office on the leaflets shelf as you enter the office. Please help yourselves. Additional information on Ragwort management is available on our www.weeds.asn.au webpage.
Calender of Events
Our calendar of events is now on-line at http://www.tamarnrm.com.au/whats-on/. The calendar lists any activities being run by any Landcare, Wildcare or Community Group in the North of Tasmania. Obviously not all care group activities are listed, but we hope that the events advertising will help the groups attract new participants. It might also help with the increasing number of double bookings and “lets fill the week up with meetings” incidents!
